Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Ephesians 5:1-2 NIV
Paul is very much concerned about the Church in Ephesus. He points or directs to the example of God. And encourages the beloved brothers and Sisters in the Church that it is possible to imitate God’s example of Love for one another. One good reason is that we the Church is dearly loved by God as we are His Children. We are Children of God because we have believed in Him. So, we have to live the life of Love, means our talks, our walks our attitudes should be of Love for one another.
Examples of God’s love:
👉Love your enemies, pray for your persecutors, haters, one who mistreat you, or curse you. Loving those who love you is easy, even the pagans or sinners do that. So, Be perfect, therefore, as heavenly Father is Perfect by loving your enemies.
👉 Love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them: money or things as they need if you can. Lend to them but without expecting to get anything back. So, be merciful, just as your Father is merciful, because he is kind to ungrateful and wicked.
Paul here explains how one could demonstrate the way or life of love. He says our love should be sacrificial, it requires lot of efforts and hard work so much so as Christ gave himself up for us, let our love for one another be one like Christ. Our act of love similar to Christ will be like a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
